“If you face death, for that time, for the period of direct confrontation, you are immortal".

-William S. Burroughs

IN THE LAND OF PLENTY.

This is the first collection I made after a life-altering surgery that left me incapable of working for several months. It is the first collection I put together during the worldwide pandemic that we are all living through. In the Land of Plenty is also the name of my daily stories on Instagram which showcases the beauty of an ordinary life full of inspirations.

When I first thought about this collection, I realized that most of the stores I sold to in NYC were closed, some forever, that most of my clients had left the city because of the pandemic and that I was in quarantine in Brazil.

While I was still recuperating from the surgery the urge to return to doing what I love, to create the collections, the collages, the photoshoots, was strong! I decided not to think about anything tragic happening in my life or in the world! I would focus in all the good around me, “To light a candle instead of cursing the darkness.” I pulled myself together with the help of beautiful music, good books, early morning walks in our land in Brazil, admiring the trees, birds, insects, the wind, and the sun.

In my walks I realized that I had plenty without all that I had back in NYC. I realized that I was "IN THE LAND OF PLENTY " literally and figuratively speaking. My need to return to the life I once had in NYC, where working 14 hours a day, seven days a week was normal, had lessened. Now that my old habits are gone and my health is back, NYC shall become a more joyful city or at least more tolerable.

I had many of the collages and shapes ideas while relaxing in my hammock convalescing and wondering about the future. I decided that this latest presentation should be more of a chapter of a well lived life rather than an explanation of what inspired me to make it. The reality is that I made this collection for myself to be entertained, to express myself, for my own amusement and to honor those and the things that inspire me in life.

During the creative process of this collection I worked with many people who brought me joy. The photoshoot for the collection was inspired by the works of Hélio Oiticica and had the very talented and easy going Saulo Rocha as the official photographer. The props were made by me with the help of my assistant Warli Sales, a Master of Art Brut. MUA by the always divine Mikaelly Dutra. By my side, as always, Juan Ripoll. my husband, my friend. together through thick and thin.

It is a wonderful thing to be part of both The Land of Opportunity and THE LAND OF PLENTY

I hope you all enjoy this collection.
